Yup, that pretty much sums up the first 5 minutes of Zombieland. The previews left me skeptical, and the opening credits confirmed my doubts. It was going to be a sorry excuse for as much visual vomiting of blood and consumption of entrails as could be shown in an R rated movie. But then, when all hope seemed lost, the movie launched into a brilliant opening. Columbus's list of rules were very reminiscent of the Zombie Survival Guide (which if you haven't read, please do so for the sake of your own safety). Both leave you feeling a very genuine concern for survival and both are kind enough to offer some good advice. Woody Harrelson's character was wonderful, and Bill Murray's subtle part was a tasteful addition. And I must say, I enjoyed the way the zombies portrayed. While they were a bit fast for traditional zombies, they certainly seemed mindless and bent on only one thing...fresh food. And that is a very good thing. Although it's not quite up to par with Shawn of the Dead (very few movies are), it is definitely worth the watch.
And after a bit of a break, Cody and I have resumed our reading/weekly discussions, this time in Ruth, John, and Galations. More to come on that. Until then, do your best to survive any zombie onslaughts that may be headed your way.
